CONVENTIONS
As an anime fan, cosplayer and con-goer, I like to try and attend as many cons as I can. Generally I go to Animaritime without question, since it's the closest anime convention to me. However I do attend other conventions when the opportunity is there. When I can, Anime North is my preferred convention. I've attended the convention once so far and loved it, I'll be attending every year possible.
ANIMARITIME
Animaritime is a small anime convention in Fredericton, New Brunswick that takes place the last weekend for June. It's been growing over the years and has outgrown many locations, currently hitting 1700+ attendees. Animaritime is one of the only anime conventions in the maritimes, and by far the largest. I have attended animaritime since 2011, cosplaying each of the three days every year.
HAL-CON
Hal-con is a sci-fi convention in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It takes place in late October or early November. I attending this convention with my cosplay team, Usagi Cosplay. Hal-con is a small convention that centers around sci-fi however with the amount of rising cosplayers and anime lovers that is slowly changing. However I may only attend Hal-con a few more times.
ANIME NORTH
Anime North is an anime convention in Toronto, Ontario. It takes place late May and hosts over 20 000 people anually. Anime North was the second convention I attended and my favourite so far. It's well organized and has something for everyone. Since I live in Nova Scotia and this convention is in Ontario, I can't always go, and my usual cosplay friends can't either, so for me to be in a group isn't likely. However I do still cosplay, attend panels and photoshoots when I can.
OTAKUTHON
Otakuthon is a large convention in Montreal, Quebec. It takes place late to mid August, hosting around 9000 people a year. I first attended this convention in 2013 with a few members of my cosplay team. Otakuthon was a fun and diverse convention that I plan on attending in the future. However Otakuthon, like Anime North isn't close to home so I will only be attending when I can find transportation that isn't too costly.
